October 31st

Thursday, October 31st, 1974 – Very tired – getting bags ready for Goblins – How I hate it! A. sawing wood blocks with power saw.

Thursday, October 31st, 2013 – Another beautiful sunrise today. Worked in the woodshop. Introduced myself to a stranger at the bus stop. Had the second last tomato of the summer. About 30 kids came to the house tonight (which still leaves me with a small pile of candy for myself!).

October 30th

October 30th, 1949 – Glenn still at Jean’s. We went over after church. B. Martins there. We stayed for supper. Has Fred’s 1 or 2? Who knows?

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013 – I can’t believe it is almost the end of October already. Where does the time go? I want to be making more work but am still stuck in many ways. More problems to solve than less after two studio visits today. Had a lovely supper at a friend’s tonight.

October 28th

October 28th, 1945 – Ethel, Wilbert, Edith, Jim & Verona, also Mary arrived at 2pm. Trouble at Elmvale. Fallis’s over too. Fowl & pudding dinner. Nice time.

Monday, October 28th, 2013 – Full day of work. Some new experiments are under way along with problem solving of a finished piece. Feels good to be making again. Lots of reading this evening for class. Still not done.

October 27th

October 27th, 1980 – I didn’t get to M Cumming’s 105th bdy yesterday. To Moonstone’s 92nd anniv. with Mr Carter. Rain, sleet & snow so not such a big crowd as before. Rev. Ivan Darnburowitz (?) speaker. Lunch at school. Called Alma.

Sunday, October 27th, 2013 – Busy with errands and doing an art intervention project most of the day. If only I knew where the work will end up! To church this evening. I am thankful for such a community.

October 26th

Wednesday, October 26th, 1949 – Lovely warm day. To town in AM. Got wine grapes $8.50. To Hobart in PM with Jean & Verna. Planted tulips. Snowed as we worked.

Saturday, October 27th, 2013 – Quiet day. Pretty lazy in the morning but got some research done in the afternoon and raked the leaves outside. Working on a new art idea that I want to implement tomorrow. Kind of excited about it (I do wonder what you would think about all this business!).

October 25th

October 25th, 1976 – Cloudy but pleasant. Went to quilting class but didn’t quilt – so sewed on my blocks. A. got rest of dahlias & cannas in.

Friday, October 25th, 2013 – Had a good day. Helped unload a truck of artwork (new exhibition) and worked a full day in the studio. Felt good to be productive. Went to an opening and had lovely conversations. Am thankful to be welcomed into the community here. Have even been asked to sit on the board at arts organization.

October 24th

Sunday, October 24th, 1948 – Do I feel punk? A. & G. went to church & I slept.

Thursday, October 24th, 2013 – Nothing major to report. Small work done in the AM, school job work done in the afternoon, quiet evening.

October 23rd

October 23rd, 1945 – Albert plowing in front of Mrs D’s house. A. & G. to Hillsdale for chop. Sent money to Mr. Thorpe.

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 – School was fine with some interesting conversations (in class as well as with C.VD). Had an absolute lovely evening with some new friends. It was wonderful to be welcomed into their family and home, to have a home cooked meal (so much nicer and better than I’ve been managing on my own) and lovely laughter and conversation. A blessing and food for my soul.

October 22nd

Tuesday, October 22nd, 1980 – Philadelphia won World Series in 6 games from Kansas. Wolves attacked & killed a new born calf (Ivan’s) at Karl’s. Paid telephone $23.23.

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013 – Worked in the wood shop part of the day, and worked three hours this evening at a recruitment event. So interesting to seeĀ  high school students with the whole bright world and future before them. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back to that age but I am envious of all the options before them. I guess I didn’t feel like I had a lot of choice. I just felt like I needed to do art (and that was all I was good at). Did some more research this afternoon and have a few more ideas to play around with. Hopefully I can play and not get to wrapped up in the results.
